A Bioware Writer Shares A Peek Behind The Curtain Of Writing For Video Games

January 24, 2016 by Ryan Parreno

It’s not as easy as it used to be.

Ever wondered how Bioware writers work on their AAA titles? You can take a peek behind the proverbial curtain today, assuming you have thirty minutes.

Patrick Weekes, who is now the lead writer for the Dragon Age series, came for an interview with podcast Video Game Sophistry, to discuss how they flesh out their worlds and its multifaceted relationships.

These are some things Weekes discussed in the podcast:

·         Weekes’ own origins

·         Training the player to do the wrong thing

·         How video games is growing vis-à-vis how film grew as an art form

·         How it’s harder to get a job today more than ever before

·         The greater focus on nonlinear narratives

·         Using and learning with text adventure program twine

·         The horror of peer reviews

·         The most common mistakes that still happen in the writer’s room
