Paradox Announces Cities: Skylines Snowfall Expansion

January 19, 2016 by Carlos Chism

Take a look at how you’ll be able to build and manage new winter wonder lands.

Paradox Interactive announced today the upcoming Cities: Skylines expansion, Snowfall, which will be available on PC, Mac, and Linux later this year. Along with a press release, the publisher also unveiled a new trailer to show off some gameplay.

The expansion’s primary addition is an in-game weather system. A new winter map theme throws new cold weather challenges at playesr, like a greater demand for electricity during the colder months. To keep the new wintry difficulties at bay, new buildings will need to be employed, like snowplow depots, which will help keep traffic from reaching a standstill during blizzards.

Rain and fog will also be added for existing maps as part of a free update, along with other features “to be announced soon”. The expansion will also add expanded public transportation options, including easier management of existing lines. New chirps will also be added, because there's no such thing as enough chirps.

Cities: Skylines originally released last March to much praise. Many fans welcomed it as the city sim they had wanted Sim City to be. Later in the year, Colossal Order released the game’s first expansion, After Dark, which added nightlife as a new layer of gameplay, with features like increased crime at night, a new nighttime budget, and other after-hours activities.

There's no word on an Xbox One version of the expansion. Paradox and Colossal Order haven’t given firm release date, but you can expect the game sometime this year. Until then, make sure to check out the trailer for a look at the winter wonderlands you’ll be able to build.
