Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima has revealed the company’s plans for the near future. Most of this should be no surprise to you, except for one new detail.
For starters, Kimishima has reaffirmed that the NX is an entirely new concept. DeNA is involved with development of this console, and this is presumably a mostly independent project from their mobile endeavors. DeNA of course, has less experience in hardware, but was most likely tapped for their specialty in network infrastructure.
Nintendo’s upcoming games and projects will also lead to a change in the company’s business model itself. We don’t know how drastic these changes they plan to be, but Kimishima’s set goals high. He believes Nintendo’s operating profits will jump four times over to 100 billion yen, or $ 855 million.
So, what do you think Nintendo’s surprise new strategy is? If you thought I already brought it up, you got it flat out wrong.
Kimishima wants to leverage the appeal of Nintendo’s characters, and this extends beyond the coming mobile apps, and the coming theme parks, to films and anime. Yes, Nintendo’s opening up their IP to movies and TV shows again.
Nintendo is more likely to start with their bread and butter, Mario, all over again, but if you had your choice, which IP should Nintendo use first, and should it be a movie or an anime? And who should produce them? Feel free to fanboy with us below.
