The Division's map is pretty big, and encompasses the huge chunk of land that is Manhattan Island. Other parts of New York City are planned for the game, but for now, players will only be able to explore Manhattan.
Ever since the game was announced, gamers were curious as to where players will be able to go, and how big the map would be. The developers have since revealed that Manhattan will be at a 1:1 scale–pretty big, if you ask me.
Previously released trailers showed players exploring parts of Brooklyn–but that content won't be making the cut upon the game's release on March 8. Only Manhattan will be available for players to explore on the game's launch.
The game's creative directeor Magnus Jansen explained to Examiner that they want to focus on building Manhattan.
“We are going with Mid-town Manhattan. It is because of the 1-to-1 re-creation and the way the pandemic has [happened],” he said. “Basically, everything has been hit and there are no more resources because everyone tried to get out. There is no more gasoline in the cars, there is no traffic, you’re on foot.
“With the level of detail we have, doing Mid-town Manhattan is a huge open-world experience and more than enough to sink your teeth into. It is a very sizeable open-world game.”
Other areas in New York City including the previously shown Brooklyn will not be making the cut in the initial release, but may come out as expansion packs later on.
The Division comes out on March 8 for the PC, Xbox One and PS4.
