Valve’s upcoming Valve Content Showcase is getting a bit of a rebranding for this year, as it’s now been renamed the SteamVR Developer Showcase.
The SteamVR Developer Showcase will be held in Seattle this January 28. This is a competition, and so Valve has announced ten entrants, or as they put it, ‘experiences’. It’s likely most, if not all, of these experiences are demos of works in progress. They will get to demonstrate the capabilities of the 2ndgeneration kit, namely the Vive Pre.
What’s more interesting are the terms and conditions for the contestants. Winners of the competition will get their own Vive Pre. Due to legal conditions, Valve has to state the estimated retail value of said kit. Valve prices the kit at $ 1,000. Subtracting the cost of tickets to the event, which are at $ 300, this means the Vive itself could be at $ 700.
Again, this is the developer kit, so there may be differences in pricing the final product, but what do you think? Is $ 700 a good price for the HTC Vive? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
