Great news for fans of Elite Dangerous: as of today, the game has reportedly sold over 1.4 million units. If you think that pales in comparison to a game like Fallout 4, it’s important to remember that Elite Dangerous was crowdfunded. For an indie game, 1.4 million units is a monumental milestone.
It’s also big news for VR, since Elite Dangerous was the first AAA game to support full native SteamVR. “We have an amazing player community,” said Frontier CEO David Braben. “The average play time among our 1.4 million players is 60 hours – that’s a massive 84 million player hours and counting. With the community’s feedback, we’re constantly making Elite Dangerous better than ever. We have incredible long-term ambition and we will continue to deliver on those ambitions. We will detail more exciting developments for Horizons very soon.”
Elite Dangerous first launched on PC nearly two years ago, in December 2014. The game became available on Xbox One just this past year, in October 2015. You can buy it for $60 on Steam.
