Developer Wargaming has announced that World of Tanks, the popular MMO already on PC and Xbox, will release for PlayStation 4 on January 19 (via IGN).
PlayStation Plus subscribers will have access to an exclusive tank called the German Pz.Kpfw. II Ausf, J-PS. Try saying that five times fast. The tank will be available on the PlayStation store the same day as the game’s launch.
There will also be periodic “special offers and sales” for PlayStation Plus members only. Even if you don’t have a PS Plus account, you can still try the game out, since World of Tanks is free to play.
The game has been in open beta on PS4 since December 6. In the blog post announcing the beta, the project’s lead developer TJ Warner described what the game is like for newcomers:
“What is World of Tanks?” you may be asking yourself. Well simply put, it’s the most successful tank action\MMO\shooter out there and now it’s coming to PS4. You choose from a variety of tanks from different nations (ex. USA, Germany, Russia, etc.) to get started, and then hop into battle. Every match earns you rewards to upgrade your tanks and acquire new ones. You can also use these resources to customize your tanks with supplies, equipment, camos, emblems and inscriptions.
The game was originally released for PC in 2011. The game subsequently launched on Xbox One in July of last year. Because the game supports cross-platform play, you’ll be able to play with friends who own PC’s and Xbox One’s as well.
