The singer Myrra Malmberg and the Swedish choir Orphei Drängar are collaborating to put together The Greatest Videogame Music III – Choral Edition (as spotted by PC Gamer). Malmberg has appeared in several stage productions, along with Swedish versions of animated films like Alladdin and Toy Story 3.
The collaboration aims to give some classic and great videogame music a full choral treatment, as Orphei Drängar is an 80-person choir. The album will feature major videogame music, from Portal’s “Still Alive,” to Final Fantasy X’s “Hymn of the Fayth.” There will be 13 tracks on the album:
-
Final Fantasy X—Hymn of the Fayth
-
World of Warcraft—Invincible
-
Skyrim—Age of Oppression
-
Final Fantasy X—Hymn of the Fayth (Remix 1)
-
Dragon Age Inquisition—Main Theme
-
God of War 3—Anthem of the Dead
-
The Last of Us—The Choice
-
Skyrim—Dragonborn
-
Final Fantasy X—Hymn of the Faith (Remix 2)
-
Portal—Still Alive
-
Portal 2—Cara Mia Addio
-
Assassin's Creed IV—The Parting Glass
-
Minecraft Volume Alpha—Sweden
The mix of songs from games both classic and recent makes the album seem like a good survey of videogame music in general. Orphei Drängar’s 80 vocalists singing out at once during Portal’s “Still Alive,” or Skyrim’s “Dragonborn,” is impressive. You can check out both tracks below.
