The Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Director Said He Would Love Egypt As A Setting

January 7, 2016 by Carlos Chism

Guess what he might be working on now?

Gamesradar may have unearthed more evidence that the next Assassin’s Creed title may take place in Egypt. One of their editors went digging through Ashraf Ismail’s LinkedIn page. Ismail was the Game Director for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag.

He’s currently listed as the Game Director for an unannounced project at Ubisoft, and has been in that role since January of 2014, which was soon after Black Flag shipped. This seems coincidental, until paired with this quote from Ismail in 2013:

"I'm not saying we are going there, but one day I would love to explore Egypt as a setting for this game. Ancient Egypt could be a really cool place. We have a really cool explanation for how we can do this, and it is with this Animus device that allows us to go to anytime in history. It was never a set rule that we always get closer to the present day. But again, I'm not saying Egypt is where the next one is going, it's just where I would like it to go."

Suddenly, it makes much more sense that the gameIsmail is working on could be the Egypt Project codenamed “Empire.” It was reported earlier this week that the next Assassin’s Creed takes place in Egypt and may skip 2016.

What do you think? Is this just coincidence, or is the evidence starting to pile up? Let us know in the comments.
