Valve saw Steam set a new record this past Sunday, with over 12 million concurrent users on the service at the same time. As spotted by Gamasutra, the record was set around 7 p.m. on January 3, with 12,332,504 players signed in.
The most popular games on the service at the time were DotA 2, with 940, 373 players, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, with 643,402 players, Fallout 4, with 116,599 players, and Grand Theft Auto V, with 92,539 players. This NeoGAF thread has compiled screenshots of all the data on the games played when the record was broken.
The digital distribution platform’s previous record occurred on June 15, 2015, where the service saw a simultaneous 10 million players signed in. Steam also saw their total number of active accounts surpass 125 million during February of last year.
Some may be surprised, considering Valve’s troubles with an account caching issue on Christmas day, that so many users weren’t wary. But considering that this was the night before many people returned to work after the holidays, it doesn’t seem odd that they wanted to spend a few more hours with any of the games they may have snagged during the Steam Winter Sale.
