Sony continues to pull ahead this console generation following a strong holiday quarter. The company announced today that sales of the PlayStation 4 had reached 35.9 million by January 3rd.
During the last three months of 2015 Sony sold 5.7 million PS4 systems and 35 million games, though the breakdown between digital and physical has not been revealed. Sony had sold 29.3 consoles by the end of September.
PlayStation Plus subscriptions increased 60 per cent compared to the same period in 2014. This is particularly impressive given that Sony itself admitted its holiday lineup was "sparse".
In a press release Sony Computer Entertainment president and CEO Andrew House commented, "We are absolutely delighted that so many customers have selected PS4 as the best place to play throughout this holiday season and that the PS4 community is growing more than ever. We remain steadfast in our commitment to deliver innovative entertainment experiences, and look forward to bringing an unprecedented games portfolio from third party developers and publishers and SCE Worldwide Studios."
PS4 exclusives set for release this year include Ratchet and Clank, Street Fighter V, Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, Horizon Zero Dawn, and The Last Guardian.
