You Can Preorder The Oculus Rift On January 6

January 4, 2016 by Carlos Chism

If you’re super eager, the exact time is 11 a.m. EST/ 8 a.m. PST.

Those hungry for virtual reality will be able to get one step closer starting this Wednesday. Oculus announced this morning that the Rift, the company’s virtual reality headset, will be available for pre-order starting at 8 a.m. PST that day.

There’s still no official word how much a rig will cost, but Oculus CEO Palmer Luckey has mentioned that it will run more than $350. The announcement also said that Luckey will be conducting a Reddit Ask Me Anything (AMA) thread starting at 6 p.m. PST on Wednesday.

While the device’s price is still unknown, we do know that anyone who takes the plunge on Wednesday will get a free copy of Eve: Valkyrie, and that the platformer Lucky’s Tale will come free of charge with every purchase, preorder or not.

Oculus has made other announcements concerning the Rift. Earlier in the year, they announced Oculus Home as the platform’s main hub. Through Home, users of the virtual reality headset will be able to, while wearing the headset, shop for games for the Rift, browse virtual spaces for each of the games before making a purchasing decision, see what friends are up to, and more.

Preorder or not, you should be able to purchase the Rift sometime during the first quarter of this year.
