In an interview with Famitsu, gaming head Yutaka Noguchi explained that changes in Japan’s pachislot regulations have forced their hand. He also cites the fact that the company’s name is inextricably linked to games to this day.

SNK Playmore was recently acquired by Ledo Millenium, a subsidiary of Leyou Technologies. Neither company has experience in video games, but they seem to have solid multimedia plans for the company and its IP. Of course, the first project we know coming from them now is King of Fighters XIV, for PlayStation 4.
