Sony is confident that the combination of an “unprecedented rush” of big games for PlayStation 4 along with the launch of PlayStation VR will propel system sales even further in 2016. This is according to Shuhei Yoshida, President of Worldwide Studios at SCE.
In an interview with 4Gamer (via Dualshockers and GameSpot), Yoshida said that 2016 will be a major year for the PS4. In addition to the expected large multi-platform games launching, the system will also boast several big name console exclusives like Street Fighter V, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Horizon: Zero Dawn, Gran Turismo Sport, and The Last Guardian.
“2016 marks an unprecedented rush of big titles for PS4. It’s also the year of the long-awaited launch of PlayStation VR. It’s the year PS4 users, and those who are on the fence on whether to buy it will absolutely think “it’s good to have a PS4.” Please look forward to it.”
2015 wasn’t as spectacular a year for the PS4. There was a sparse showing of first-party exclusives, and the system was mostly carried by big name first party games like Star Wars Battlefront, Fallout 4, and DLC-exclusivity deals with games like Destiny. Sony exec Andrew House even said in March that the console’s lineup for the year was “a little sparse.”
Despite the lack of exclusives, Sony has enjoyed PS4 sales of more than 30 million units. Here’s to a happy and healthy year for the entire industry in 2016.
