Star Wars: Battlefront Drops $20 to Ride Force Awaken Release Hype

December 18, 2015 by Ian Miles Cheong

Game is discounted to $40 on all platforms, plus free bobblehead for console versions.

For the first time since its November 17th release, Star Wars Battlefront is getting the discount treatment over at EA's Origin Store. Through next week Monday, EA has launched a 33% off sale to ride the Star Wars: The Force Awaken hype train, cutting the base game twenty bucks with similar discounts for the more expensive editions.

PC Deal

  • Star Wars: Battlefront Standard Edition (Origin Key) — $39.99 (list $60)
  • Star Wars: Battlefront Deluxe Edition (Origin Key) — $46.66 (list $70)
  • Star Wars: Battlefront Ultimate Edition (Origin Key) — $89.98 (list $120)

Console Deal

  • Star Wars: Battlefront + FREE Kylo Ren Bobblehead (PS4) — $39.99 (list $60)
  • Star Wars: Battlefront + Free Kylo Ren Bobblehead (Xbox One) — $39.99 (list $60)
  • Use coupon SAVER for free shipping at GameStop

Gamers on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 aren't left out of the dark, as GameStop continues their $20 discount on Star Wars: Battlefront for both title, and are now for a limited time throwing in a free Kylo Ren Bobblehead ($14 value). Gift for Christmas with stocking stuffers included? Not bad.

Given Origin is the only retailer selling the Digital Deluxe and Ultimate Editions of the game, this is the first ever discount from a legitimate retailer. Like the Standard Edition, the Digital Deluxe is 33% off, but the Ultimate Edition is only 25% off. This is because the Ultimate Edition contains the Season Pass, still sitting at full price on Origin.

Is the Digital Deluxe worth upgrading to? Since Origin has a monopoly, discounts will be hard to come by in the future, making this a rare opportunity to get the combo for much less than list. Having said that, most of the content in the Digital Deluxe Edition is instant access to higher up weapons that you unlock anyway when you rank up your character through play. So we think this isn't quite worth the money.

Is the Ultimate Edition of the game worth getting at this price? This is a tough call, because right now it's not. The Ultimate Edition gets you everything in the Digital Deluxe Edition plus the Season Pass. However, there is no Season Pass content out yet – not until early 2016. On the plus side, buying the Ultimate Edition, even with its inferior 25% discount, is $6.66 cheaper than buying the Digital Deluxe and the Season Pass separately. Unless you're truly a hardcore Battlefront fan (and you've probably bought all of this already), then you should save the money.. perhaps using it towards watching Force Awaken this weekend?

The Origin deals on Star Wars: Battlefront will expire on Monday, December 21st at 10AM Pacific. No word on GameStop on when their discount will expire and when the freebie Bobbleheads will be unavailable – but suffice to say it is a limited time offer too.
