PaRappa The Rapper 2, the 2002 PlayStation 2 rhythm game, will be available to play on PlayStation 4 starting Tuesday, December 15. The game will include upscaled 1080p graphics, support for trophies, Remote play with the PlayStation Vita, live broadcasting, and Share Play. The announcement was made on the latest PlayStation Blogscast.
Sony launched eight PS2 games on PS4 just before the PlayStation Experience keynote. They included Dark Cloud, Grand Theft Auto III, Vice City, San Andreas, Rogue Galaxy, and Twisted Metal: Black. Each of these titles included the same features that will be available for PaRappa the Rapper 2. While pricing for the latest PS2 release has not been announced, the $10-$15 pricing of the eight already released PS2 titles indicates it will fall somewhere in that range.
Sony quietly revealed last month that it was working on PlayStation 2 emulation for PlayStation 4. The first set of games to take advantage of this technology were the PS2 classics released in the Star Wars Battlefront PS4 bundle. This technology is not direct backwards compatibility, because it still require that users purchase the game all over again. Inserting a PS2 disc into a PS4 will not play the game, even if it has been rereleased.
Sony has said in the past that it is working tirelessly to update the PS2 library available on PS4. We know now that The King of Fighters will be added soon. There are also rumors that Rockstar’s Max Payne may come to PS4 as well
