Lunar and Grandia Listings Appear For Steam, By Gungho

December 10, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

Coming out of the success of Puzzle & Dragons, Gungho is cash rich enough, and can take the risks in bringing the old Lunar and Grandia games to Steam, or even making new ones.

Fan of niche Japanese game developer Game Arts? You may be playing some of their 90s classics on your PC soon.

Steamdb has listings for Lunar and Grandia. These are generic listings, so we don’t know for sure exactly what games from these series they plan to bring over. Humorously, Gungho Online, who made these listings, noted that they saw folks sharing it on Twitter and NeoGAF.

The first Lunar game, Lunar: The Silver Star, is fondly remembered today as one of the most high profile games to use full motion video on the Sega Mega-CD, and cutscenes would prove to be come the series’ defining characteristic. Otherwise, these were conventional Japanese RPGs, utilizing turn based gameplay. The last Lunar release was Lunar Silver Star Story Touch on iOS last 2012.

On the other hand, the Grandia series saw more changes as the series progressed. Whereas the original game merely added changing character battle positions from Lunar, by Grandia III Game Arts were seeking to innovate on the battle system. Most of the Grandia games were also in 3D, in contrast to Lunar exclusively staying in 2D.

The last game in the Grandia series was Gungho-published Grandia Online, an MMO active between 2009-2012.

Coming out of the success of Puzzle & Dragons, Gungho is cash rich enough, and can take the risks in bringing the old Lunar and Grandia games to Steam, or even making new ones.

Would you rather see Lunar and Grandia games get reissued on Steam, or would you prefer new versions of these games? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
