Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy VI will release on Steam next Wednesday, December 16. The title was originally released in 1991 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. The title chronicled the adventures of rebels seeking to overthrow Imperial rulers of a steampunk world. Magic, a once powerful force, has become a myth. The game is considered one of the best entries in the franchise.
As spotted by PC Gamer, here are some key features of the PC version, according to the game’s Steam page:
-
Veteran character designer Kazuko Shibuya has painstakingly recreated the graphics, bringing the world of FINAL FANTASY VI to your PC for the very first time!
-
Updated controls and active-time battle system are optimized for fluid combat for PC
-
Includes Steam achievements and Trading cards.
Some Final Fantasy fans might be skeptical about the rerelease, due to the poor visual quality of past remasters. The iOS/Android version of the game has been criticized as being a bad, visually worse port. The Game Boy Advance version many years ago is considered by some as the best version of the game. The Steam edition’s price has not been announced, but both Final Fantasy VII andFinal Fantasy VIII cost $11.99 on the digital platform. Square Enix also announced a total Final Fantasy VII remaster earlier this year.
Final Fantasy VI will be available next Wednesday, December 15, on Steam.
