Destiny’s newest mode, the Sparrow Racing League, begins today, and we now know it will include microtransactions. In a post on their website, the developer details how the event will work, what players will do to have access to it. First, they need to have purchased The Taken King expansion. Any players without it do not have access to league. The post also detailed the two vendors at the Tower that players will interact with for the event: the shipwright, and the Eververse Trading Company.
The latter of these is the merchant players can buy emotes from for the rest of the game. This is where players will be able to peruse the purchasable items for the league. As the company says on their site:
Check in with Tess in the Tower to peruse the following:
- New emotes to celebrate the thrill of speed and competition
- ToolKits that include stylish (but equally fast) Sparrows
- ToolKits that include Horns to let you signal your approach
- A new Record Book to provide more challenge and reward
- Complete challenges to earn vanity gear with 3 Light
- Collect an exclusive emblem and a shader
- Commemorate your SRL stats after the event is over
- SRL Helmets and Class Items acquired via the Record Book can be Infused to immortalize your status as a racing champion!
In order to access the league, players hould visit the NPC Amanda Holliday, the shipwright. Interacting with Holliday will allow players to do the following:
- Obtain your SRL Licence Quest and SRL Bounties
- Earn a new Sparrow as part of the SRL Quest
- Upgrade your reputation by completing SRL Bounties
- Each Race is a chance to earn SRL gear and Shaders
- The higher your reputation, the better the post-game drops
- Helmets and Class Items can drop with up to 320 Light
- Helmets and Class Items with Light can be used for Infusion
- All other SRL gear has no Light, but features racing perks
The Sparrow Racing League was announced this past weekend at the PlayStation Experience keynote address. The event will last for three weeks, until December 29, after which it will be unavailable.
