The PlayStation blog profiled an interesting, albeit nontraditional, game today. Bound, from Plastic Studios, is a 3D platformer “designed for people with the desire to concentrate on the narrative side of games and experience a mature story,” writes game director MichaÅ‚ Staniszewski. “On the other side of the spectrum, Bound is also being prepared for hardcore gamers looking for the challenge of one big puzzle that can be only solved by a community of players working together.”
The artistic direction is unique, but Plastic’s abstract descriptions should be enough to pique your interest. As Staniszewski writes, “we are going to deliver a ‘notgame’ to you, which is also a game.” What? “It’s up to you to decide how you would like to play.” Count me in.
Bound’s overall style is inspired by modern art, and the few screenshots Plastic released will definitely give you an idea of the game’s flavor. But that’s not what Plastic wants you to pay attention to: it’s the protagonist that they want you to experience. “We were looking for a rich personality, one that could bring beauty to moves and exploration, a dancer or to be more precise — a ballerina,” writes the director. “Thanks to our dancer Maria Udod and her choreographer MichaÅ‚ Adam Góral, we were able to capture some true expressive and emotional moments and put it into our game.” Because of the importance of ballet to the story, the soundtrack will incorporate ballet music in intriguing ways.
But don’t let me tell you all about it – check out the trailer here:
