Developer Spike Chunsoft revealed today that Danganronpa 3 will release in 2016 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita in Japan. The game’s existence had already been confirmed earlier this year, and its first trailer debuted at Tokyo Game Show recently. A new trailer has been released, which can be seen below. It features Monokuma and his newest victims.
According to Famitsu, New Danganronpa V3 takes place in a fresh academy and focuses on a “psycho cool” aesthetic. There will also be an upcoming anime, titled Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope’s Peak Academy, which also releases next year.
The Danganronpa series chronicles classes of gifted high schoolers who are forced in a perilous game of deception and murder. Students are killed by their classmates, and players must navigate these challenges by finding clues and identifying the culprit. The series of events culminates in a trial.
Release dates for North America, Europe, and other territories have not yet been announced. Danganronpa 2 was released in Japan in 2013, followed by the other territories in 2014. So while Japan gets a 2016 release date for the series’ third installment, the western territories may not see the game until mid-to-late 2017.
New Danganronpa V3 is being developed and published by Spike Chunsoft.
