Naughty Dog shared a heap of details regarding Uncharted 4’s multiplayer in a livestream a few hours ago. To sum, here are the highlights:
Since it’s the last Uncharted game, Naughty Dog decided to indulge themselves with fan service. This is why there are mystical items in the multiplayer.
The Cintamani Stone originally revealed in the Paris Games Week reveal trailer now acts like a grenade, with a large area of effect. The Wrath of Eldorado inflicts huge damage but can’t one-hit kill. The Staff of Ayar Manco is placed on the ground to make it pulse. When active, it reveals the location of the enemy team on your radar. It can be destroyed by the opposing team for cash.
Every time you shoot your gun, you appear on the radar.
Sidekicks were not possible on the PlayStation 3, due to AI limitations, but ND had them in mind all along.
Sidekicks can make you cash. Even better, you can have as many as three active sidekicks at one time. However, if you want to replace one, you’ll have to kill one off.
You can earn relics to purchase items on the in-game store. Meanwhile, Uncharted Points are used to obtain specific items.
You can acquire gear such as grenades, revive packs, mines, and C4 using in game cash. You can also modify how much you can carry, and even how they work.
Every match gives you a chance to earn treasure, which gets you ammo and as much as 200 cash. You can even get a relic, but then, both winners and losers can get one.
Booster abilities are now available and can be upgraded.
Players don’t spawn randomly. Hopefully, ND makes it so that you can predict where you drop, as they said there are several factors that decide your placement.
The beta will be updated periodically while active. Sadly, no progress will carry over to the final game.
The beta will have two multiplayer maps, and eight maps when the game launches day one. There will also be only one mode in the beta, a small fraction of what will be in the final release.
The beta weighs in at 7 GB. Unfortunately, it can’t be preloaded.
