Mewtwo was created to be the world’s most powerful Pokemon and to serve Team Rocket leader Giovanni. Those familiar with Pokemon: The First Movie remember just how much that backfired. Over the years, Mewtwo has been outranked in terms of power by other Pokemon, but he remains a fan favorite to this day. It shouldn’t be too much of a surprise that in collaboration with a certain event, Pokemon GO devs have decided to make a life-sized Mewtwo statue in the Shibuya District of Tokyo.

The impressive statue was made in collaboration with Pokemon GO and the Pokemon Trading Card Game. The latter is getting a new card set featuring the former, with Mewtwo being a highlight. The Pokemon has been put back into the game as a Raid Boss recently and will be getting two Mega Evolution forms in X & Y soon.
This isn’t the first time that Japan has done something like this. In the Pokemon Center located in Tokyo, there is a clone tube featuring a near-life-size Mewtwo inside. It was a major attraction when it was first released and we have a feeling that fans will be flocking to see it again after seeing this new statue.
All in all, this is a very fun and unique collaboration that fans will surely enjoy in one form or another. We only wish that Japan would open for tourism sooner rather than later.
