The Steam Autumn Sale is set to start at 10 a.m. PST/ 1 p.m. EST today. A post on the Steamworks developer group last week alerted developers to the sale. As reported by Shacknews, the post also informed developers that this sale will differ from past Steam sales. flash and daily sales will not be available. According to the post, Valve wants to “optimize the sale for customers and allow to feature and recommend their products in more ways to more customers.” Valve believes that providing a single discount that runs the entire length of the sale will be more beneficial to both developers and consumers. The company says that top games will be featured on the store’s front page for 24-48 hour spans, and that these games will stay at their most competitive discount.
While some may welcome this new approach, which does not require checking every 12 hours on the flash deals and daily sales, others may be worried that prices won’t drop as low as they have in the past. Hopefully, whether the new system does or does not work, Valve listens to user feedback. Plenty of Steam members will have a lot to say once the sale starts later today.
