BioShock is "unquestionably a permanent franchise" according to publisher 2K Games.
Irrational Games, which originally created the franchise, was shut down last year with most of the development team been laid off and the IP moving to 2K Games California.
“The franchise is in the hands of 2K,” Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said last week during an investor conference, as reported by GameSpot.
“They’ll make announcements in due time about any upcoming releases. But BioShock is unquestionably a permanent franchise for our company and one that we do believe in.”
Irrational's boss Ken Levine remained with Take-Two after the closure and is developing something “highly creative and innovative,” according to Zelnick.
Irrational wasn't gone for long, however, with a new studio established under that name. The developer recently commented that it is "working on a new game as we speak."
