Back to Dinosaur Island, CryEngine’s New VR Demo, Free On Steam

November 18, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

You’ll need the latest Oculus Rift headset to play this one.

Are you a fan of CRYENGINE? Do you happen to have the Oculus Rift? Crytek has laid out a treat for you.

Available now is Back to Dinosaur Island, the sequel to the 1999 CRYENGINE demo X-Isle.  Both demos are meant to demonstrate the power of the game engine.

As you might have guessed, there is a huge catch; you do need Oculus Rift to really experience it. Still, Crytek was generous enough to give fans a peek at what the VR experience looks like with the video above.

For those who remember X-Isle, there’s definitely huge differences in presentation and execution. Rather than show off multiple little effects, all of Back to Dinosaur Island is a cramped affair, but of course, the point was to demonstrate VR as its own experience.

You can get Back to Dinosaur Island on Steam here. You can also review system requirements below.

OS: Windows 7, 8 or 10 (64bit)

Processor: Intel® Core™ i7-2600K CPU @3.40GHz

Memory: 16 GB RAM

Graphics: NVIDIA GTX 980 or equivalent

DirectX: Version 11

Hard Drive: 2 GB available space

Additional Notes: Oculus Rift DK2 required
