Who remembers Lollipop Chainsaw? It’s hard to forget that enthusiastic cheerleader with her array of weapons, killing every zombie in sight. It now looks as though the game will be making a comeback at some point in the near future.
This wacky, over-the-top zombie game was created by Suda51 – the team behind No More Heroes – and was a hack-and-slash title where players took control of Juliet as she fights through undying hoards. Juliet uses a variety of melee attacks, countless dodges, and a mix of attacks with her infamous chainsaw.
The rumors of Lollipop Chainsaw returning stem from the game’s executive producer, Yoshimi Yasuda, who has recently set up his own company so he can work on different projects, with a game in this series being labeled as one of them. Does this mean a re-release, a remaster, or a sequel to the first game? Yasuda hasn’t confirmed anything just yet, but he did make a few comments about the game.
“Lollipop Chainsaw is back by Dragami Games. Please look forward to it.” We know this isn’t much to go off in terms of what kind of game we will see, but we can assume that the game should be making a return at some point.
The game itself was released back in 2012 and garnered mixed reviews from critics. Sales were disappointing, but it left a lasting impression on the fans that did buy the game. A return would be heavily accepted by the masses, as over the years, the title has managed to become remembered more fondly.
Lollipop Chainsaw was also well-known for having a certain James Gunn write the script. This was the only game he has ever worked on, and he posted a celebratory tweet for its 10-year anniversary recently.
Now that Yoshimi Yasuda has his new company and is ready to work on new projects, let’s see what happens with Lollipop Chainsaw. Maybe we’ll see the Guardians of the Galaxy director return for another collaboration.
