The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD for Wii U was officially announced today in Nintendo’s Nintendo Direct online presentation with a release date of March 4, 2016.
Twilight Princess HD, a high-definition upgrade of the 2006 Gamecube and Wii game, was first sighted in the Wii U eShop backend last month. The game will sport updated visuals, controls tuned for the Wii U Gamepad, and amiibo support. The game is available for pre-order right now in a bundle pack that includes the game and a new Wolf Link amiibo. Other amiibo supported by Twilight Princess HD are: Link, Shiek, Zelda, Toon Link, and Ganondorf from the Super Smash Bros. line of amiibo.
Nintendo also noted that “some info saved to the Wolf Link amiibo will carry it over to the Wii U Zelda game.”
The announcement came via Nintendo’s Nintendo Direct presentation and featured footage from the HD upgrade. Game developer Tantalus, located in Melbourne, Australia, is supporting the development of the port and “has a great track record for ports,” Nintendo of America president and COO Reggie Fils-Aimé said in the presentation. Fils-Aimé also teased some “other new features” that will be “touched on later.”
Closing out the Twilight Princess HD announcement, Fils-Aimé noted that 2016 is the 30th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda series and then affirmed Nintendo’s commitment to releasing the new Legend of Zelda game for Wii U next year. A new picture of the game can be seen below.
