The director of the 2006 Silent Hill film, Christophe Gans, has said that there will be future Silent Hill games at some point in the future. Over the past few months, there has been increased speculation about when another Silent Hill game will come about. The huge popularity of the series has left fans fantasizing about what could be next. A sequel? A reboot?
Konami added fuel to the fire recently by deleting images on Twitter due to a copyright infringement, reiterating that people shouldn’t comment on rumors. In a recent interview with Gamingsym about the re-release of his 2001 film Brotherhood of the Wolf, Gans spoke about the fact that Konami is indeed working on a return to the series.
“In fact, what happens is that… and we know it, it’s in the thing… the franchise is going to be relaunched in terms of video games, and therefore the film will become part of a global policy,” Gans said. “I’m not saying that it was Konami who asked us to make a new film, it just so happens that a few months before the start of the pandemic, we are at the beginning of 2020, with Victor Hadida, following the death of his brother Samuel, we went through all the rights that Samuel has acquired and we said to ourselves…we have the Fatal Frame franchise and the Silent Hill license, we have to do something about it.”
Gans wanted to further explain Konami’s decision to return to the series and said that their desire to relaunch Silent Hill was down to the success of the latest Resident Evil games. Mainstream horror games are the hot genre at the minute and the Silent Hill games of old can rival any game since. A reboot, a remaster, anything is needed to get this show back on the road. This is all the confirmation that we could ever need, but it is still unclear what will manifest first in terms of future Silent Hill games and when we will see something. The rumors (even if we shouldn’t comment on them) say that a Silent Hill 2 remake is in the works, and a film will also follow as well at some point.
