Infinity Blade 2 Offers New Fighting System, Better Graphics, Evolving World

October 5, 2011 by Ian Miles Cheong

The new Infinity Blade 2 from Epic Games will offer better graphics and a host of new gameplay features will put to shame the original game.

Infinity Blade 2 looks like the one game that will knock the ball right out of the ballpark on the newly unveiled iPhone 4S.

The game was just announced at Apple's keynote event with speakers from both Epic Games and Chair Entertainment, which is developing it. According to the two studios, the game will "build upon the addictive gameplay and breathtaking visuals of the original game." Meaning, it'll look better than the previous game and hopefully offer gameplay that involves more than just being a swordfighting version of Punch-Out—not that there's anything wrong with that at all.

In the first Infinity Blade, you took on the role of a warrior sworn to avenge the death of his father (or "padre" as he speaks in his gibberish language) by slaying The God King. The story then continued with additional content that involves killing the Deathless Kings, the game's uberbosses. The player would collect new pieces of armor and weaponry that would be passed down to the next in line if the player died, starting the sequence all over again.

Part RPG, part Punch-Out clone, Infinity Blade was (and still is) a blast to play.

The sequel, Infinity Blade 2, will offer dozens of new areas in what the developers refer to as an "evolving world," which hopefully means that it will offer a non-linear progression path this time around. Further changes include new fighting styles and the addition of weapon classes.

Players will be able to sync their saves with the new OS5 firmware, so they can alternate between playing the game over the iPad, or the new iPhone.

Infinity Blade 2 will launch on Apple's App Store on December 1st for iPhones, iPads and iPod Touches that support it.
