Update: Versus Evil has issued a statement about the console version of the original Banner Saga to GameInformer. In it, the publisher says development of the ports is progressing well as is work on the sequel:
"The console ports of the Banner Saga are in full affect. We are currently wrapping up development for the first game now (in with 1st party submission). The delays in the console is mainly game development fun, but also the team has spent time working on console specific controls to make it perform as a console game, more than just a port.
"Banner Saga 2’s development is progressing nicely. Customers who have attended gamescom and PAX have seen its progress. We will update everyone on its launch date when the timing is right."
Original Story: The Banner Saga 2 will not be released in 2015, as was originally announced, but will instead make its debut during the first quarter of 2016.
Publisher Versus Evil has informed Eurogamer of the delay but would not confirm whether the game will launch simultaneously on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
The original Banner Saga launched in early 2014 and came to mobile later that same year. A PS4 port was planned for 2015 but developer Stoic's next game will be The Banner Saga 2 according to a Versus Evil spokesperson, suggesting the first game won't make the jump to PlayStation before the first quarter of 2016.
The Banner Saga 2 was announced in December 2014 at The Game Awards.
