A teaser trailer for the sequel to 2013’s indie survival-horror hit Outlast was released by developer Red Barrels today.
The trailer shows a Christian crucifix on fire in a field with narration playing as the camera slows pans outward while spinning to reveal the crucifix is actually upside-down.
A description for Outlast 2 can be read below:
Outlast 2, the sequel to the acclaimed survival horror game Outlast, is a twisted new journey into the depths of the human mind and its dark secrets.
No conflict is ever black and white. But once the dust has settled, the victors get to decide who was right and who was wrong. Who is good and who is evil. Human nature pushes us to extremes of violence and depravity, which we then justify by divine inspiration and a promise of paradise to come. Horror rises from desperation and blind faith. Outlast 2 will test your faith, pushing players to a place where going mad is the only sane thing to do.
Outlast 2 was confirmed to be in development a year ago. Red Barrels co-founder Philippe Morin said, at the time, that the sequel would not take place at Mount Massive Asylum, as the original and its follow-up DLC Whistleblower had.
“The game will be a survival horror experience and it will take place in the same universe as Outlast, but it will have different characters and a different setting,” Morin said at the time. “We might go back to Mount Massive Asylum one day, but for now we have new ideas and themes we’d like to explore and we think we’re cooking up something special.”
Outlast 2 will be available fall 2016.
