Activision And Black Hops Brewing Partner To Create Black Ops 3 Beer

October 28, 2015 by Carlos Chism

Call of Duty is jumping on the beer train.

Australian Brewery Black Hops Brewing and Activision have worked together to create a special beer just in time for the launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 next week. The beer will be available starting at 1 p.m. on November 2nd exclusively in Australia. If you live down under and want to purchase it, you can do so here.

Because it is currently summer in Australia, Black Hops Brewing wanted to create a drink that would go well in the heat, so they avoided traditional black beers. Instead, they opted to brew an American-style pale ale using “special ingredients sourced from around the world”.  The end result from experimentation in one of the owners’ home brewing setups is a drink “low on roasty bitterness” that doesn’t taste black, even though the drink’s color actually is.

“The beer is black in color, but light and refreshing like a traditional pale ale, perfect for the Aussie summer. It’s made with an ingredient new to the market from the U.S. called “midnight wheat” a roasted de-husked wheat grain that provides a rich dark colour without the bitterness you would expect from a dark beer," explained Black Hops Brewing co-founder Michael McGovern. "It messes with your mind, a bit like the Black Ops storyline I guess.”

Activision is not the only games company creating beer based on one of their franchises. Just last week, Bethesda announced a partnership with Carlsberg for its own specially-crafted Fallout beer.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 releases for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on November 6th.

Black Ops Midnight Pale Ale will be available on November 2nd at 1 PM only in Australia.

“Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is also getting its own craft beer” from Gamezone.
