Roots Of Dread Launches For Dead By Daylight

June 7, 2022 by Alexandra Nicholson

Don’t expect safety in the lockers anymore.

The newest DLC chapter for the slasher hide-and-seek game Dead By Daylight launches today. Roots of Dread is the 24th addition to the highly popular multiplayer action-horror title and will introduce a variety of new content and features, including a brand new Killer as well as a new Survivor.

The newest Killer to enter The Fog is the fearsome-sounding The Dredge, which is described as “a shapeless mass of twisted limbs that lurks in the shadows” and the “manifestation of a collective nightmare.” Players will struggle to find The Dredge, being that it’s all shapeless and terrifying, not to mention the constant fog.

The new Killer has a special power called Reign of Darkness that has two functions known as Gloaming and Nightfall. Gloaming gives The Dredge the power of teleportation, meaning it could literally pounce on unsuspecting players that are trying to hide from it in lockers. Nightfall sets up a countdown timer with a meter that fills up each time The Dredge teleports or hooks a player. Once the meter is full, Nightfall descends, making it significantly harder for players to see what they’re doing.

Roots of Dread also brings a new Survivor to the game in the form of monster hunter Haddie Kaur, a fearless fighter with a special ability that lets her see “bleeds” between the game world and the evil realm of The Entity. Dave Richard, Creative Director of Dead by Daylight, explained a bit more about Haddie in a press release.

Haddie is a very strong character with a really interesting backstory. I love her for the duality that exists within her – she is both Québécoise and Indian, and she’s from our world but has always had a foot in the other. This makes for an extremely empowering play experience.

The latest DLC also brings a new map, the Garden of Joy, for players to explore, as well as a number of new cosmetic items for players to unlock.

Dead by Daylight: Roots of Dread is available now on Xbox Series S/X, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC via the Epic Games Store, Steam, and the Windows Store.
