This year’s Summer Game Fest will be “primarily focused” on games that have already been announced, according to Geoff Keighley. In a Twitter Spaces discussion over the weekend, Keighley urged game fans to “manage your expectations” for the upcoming showcase, which kicks off June 9.
“So we’re doing some good stuff for you, but definitely manage your expectations in terms of the megaton shocks that you’re expecting. This is not The Game Awards. We’ve got lots of good stuff to show you but buyer beware of some of the crazy rumors I’m seeing out there in terms of things people expect to get announced,” said Keighley.
As for what will be at the show, Keighley stated that viewers will see more from projects that have already been announced, including both “massive games” and indie titles. The Callisto Protocol, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Gotham Knights, and Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course were among the titles mentioned by Keighley. Hollow Knight sequel Silksong has also been rumored to be making an appearance. Keighley said that Summer Game Fest will feature several guest appearances, including one by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in conjunction with his event in Fortnite.
Summer Game Fest airs live on Thursday, June 9, and is expected to last between 90 minutes and two hours. The weeklong event continues with Netflix Geeked Week: Gaming and the Tribeca Games Spotlight before concluding on June 12 with the Xbox + Bethesda Games Showcase. According to Keighley, Microsoft will have a presence at Summer Game Fest on Thursday but will reserve its biggest content for its own showcase.
“This is a really exciting weekend for me because I get to finally see things we’ve been talking about to people for months,” Keighley said.
