Nintendo has seemingly registered trademarks for “Nintendo Studios” and “M Brothers Productions”. These names were discovered in the U.S trademark database, in relation to the upcoming Super Mario Bros. Movie. PlayStation created its own named brand for its involvement with Films and TV, opting for the aptly titled PlayStation Productions. It seems like Nintendo is planning to use Nintendo Studios and M Brothers Productions for potential upcoming projects, aside from the animated Mario film being produced by Illumination.
In 2020, Nintendo’s president, Shuntaro Furukawa, revealed that the company had “already embarked on multiple other visual expansion projects, and are pursuing further opportunities.” A few years ago, Nintendo was supposedly working on a The Legend of Zelda Netflix series, but quickly abandoned the project following early leaks from an inside source. However, with the Mario movie on the horizon, we may see more projects depending on the film’s success at the box office.
The Mario Bros. film was originally intended to be released in December 2022 but was recently delayed to April 2023. According to Shigeru Miyamoto, this is to ensure that the film meets the expectations of all Nintendo fans across the globe. Interestingly, the internet managed to find themselves gravitating towards the cast of the film, and has been making memes ever since.
The film will star Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey, Kong Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek Sebastian, Maniscalco as Spike, and Charles Martinet is planned to make an appearance in cameo roles.
