Following on the heels of its best-selling Fire Emblem entry to date, Nintendo announced Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes in February 2022. The move makes sense — Fire Emblem: Three Houses surpassed three million units sold, making it the best-selling title in Nintendo’s long-running Fire Emblem series. The game also took home awards for Best Strategy Game and Player’s Voice Award at The Game Awards 2019.
Fortunately, fans won’t have long to wait to get their hands on this game. Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes is scheduled for release on June 24, 2022. But if you’re a fan of Three Houses, you may be wondering how this new entry ties its predecessor. Similarly, if you’re new to the series, you probably want to know if you should play Three Houses before tackling Three Hopes.
Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes is set in Fódlan, the world of Three Houses. According to the trailer, the game will feature many familiar characters, including Edelgard, Dmitir, and Claude. Player choice will determine which of four possible story paths the game will take. Additionally, the trailer debuts a new protagonist named Shez, a dual-wielding mercenary. It also teases the game’s villain, the Ashen Demon, which will appear as a male or female Byleth depending on the player’s choice.
Despite all this crossover, the two games’ stories are independent of each other. Per Google translate on the game’s official website, “In this work, which inherits the world and characters, a new story that could have been.” However, neither the site nor the game’s trailers reveal much about the story of Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes. For now, it appears that fans will simply have to wait for June 24 to find out for themselves.
Digital and physical editions of Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes are currently up for preorder at major retailers.
