It has only been a week since Nintendo closed the Super Smash Bros for Wii U and 3DS Character Ballot, and speculation is running wild.
Earlier today, the Super Smash Bros website was mysteriously updated to show that the Shovel Knight amiibo would be compatible for Smash. While this sounds believable, and even likely since the amiibo went into production, Yacht Club Games has already denied the rumor before, and denied it again. They also point out the website update was an erroneous listing.
@justinwing6202 Appreciate the enthusiasm for the idea, but I believe this listing was made in error.

This has not stopped fane enthusiasm for rumors, and in fact, there’s a separate rumor running around that the next playable character will be added soon.
These are the details collected from several sources:
· This character is a newcomer.
· This character is popular, but may not be the #1 character on the ballot.
· This character would make a lot of buzz in social media.
· This character is a first-party character.
· This character's inclusion shouldn't be a surprise.
· The character is not Wolf, Shovel Knight, or Shantae.
· The character is coming with a new stage.
· The character won’t be appearing in a patch like Ryu from Street Fighter.
Fans have connected several tweets from different insiders in an effort to lend credence to the rumors. While none of the sources have revealed who it is, the guess made by our source is that it will be from Splatoon.
Just to make things clear: there is no reason to believe these rumors are true. There has, in fact, only been denials from one of the game companies involved. Based on what Nintendo has said, they will still have to go through the ballot results, and use that information in their own choices for upcoming playable Smash characters.
