Sublevel Zero, a game described by its creators as “a first-person roguelike six-degree-of-freedom shooter,” is launching on Steam this Thursday, Oct. 8, 2015.
In Sublevel Zero players will assume the role of a gunship pilot whose mission it is to “loot and craft ancient technology.” Players will have the ability to fly and rotate in all directions, and attack and be attacked from any angle. The roguelike elements come in the form of procedural generation and permadeath. Every playthrough will be different thanks to the procedural generation and the addition of permadeath means that it’s up to the player to make every attempt count.
Interestingly, Sublevel Zero will include support for the Oculus Rift and flightstick controllers. The virtual reality elements will allow players to physical look around the cockpit of the gunship they are piloting and can even lock on to targets using positional and head tracking.
Another core element of its gameplay will be its crafting system. As with the environments, items will be randomly generated and can be acquired, upgraded, and mixed together to craft entirely new weapons. Unlocked items and blueprints will carry through to future playthroughs.
Sublevel Zero will be available on Steam Oct. 8 for £10.99/$14.99/€13.99.
