Bungie has just revealed that they will be bringing Tess back to the Tower in Destiny: The Taken King. When players installed the 2.0 patch for Destiny, the first thing they noticed when they reached the Tower was the fact that Tess Everis was missing from her storefront.
For gamers who didn't play Destiny in the first year, Tess was someone who offered a variety of items to sell and allowed players to reclaim emblems that they may have received for pre-ordering the game. With the addition of new kiosks throughout the tower, Tess's purpose seemingly came to an end.
Tess is voiced by Claudia Black, who gamers might recognize as Morrigan from the Dragon Age games.
In any case, Bungie community manager DeeJ says that the re-addition of Tess will be a part of the studio's on-going effort to create new experiences for players to enjoy in Year Two of Destiny.
She'll be back next Tuesday on October 13, sporting a new look, a new storefront, and some new items to sell courtesy of a new organization called Eververse Trading Company. Her initial stock will include eighteen brand new emotes, similar to the three emotes offered through the Collector's Edition of The Taken King. These items are completely optional and do not affect any gameplay.
Buying these items won't be easy, though, as it'll cost a new currency called "Silver," that will be available for purchase through either PSN or Xbox Live. Yes, Destiny will see the addition of real-money transactions—but only for aesthetic stuff.
Bungie states that the studio will be adding images and descriptions for each available emote, along with pricing information for the new Silver currency on October 13, which will launch alongside a new in-game storefront.
If you’re not interested in what Tess has to offer, you won’t ever be forced to pluck an item off of her shelf. You’ll still receive updates to the game, and you won’t lose a Crucible encounter or fail to clear a Raid because you didn’t have the right Eververse Trading Company emote equipped.
Our plan is to use these new items to bolster the service provided by our live team for another full year, as they grow and create more robust and engaging events that we’ll announce later this year. It has been, and continues to be, our goal to deliver updates to the game. Going forward, our live team is also looking to grow beyond vital updates and improvements to focus on world events, experiences, and feature requests.
