What Will The Gameplay Be Like In Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes?

Fire Emblem: Three Houses had surpassed three million units sold, making it the best-selling title in Nintendo’s long-running Fire Emblem series. The game also took home awards for Best Strategy Game and Player’s Voice Award at The Game Awards 2019. So it’s no surprise that this past February, the company announced it was giving the series the Warriors treatment with Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes.

The trailer for Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes debuts a new protagonist named Shez, a dual-wielding mercenary. The game looks to feature many familiar characters, including Edelgard, Dmitir, and Claude. Player choice will determine which of four possible story paths the game will take, and although the game is set in Fódlan, the world of Three Houses, the stories of the two games are independent.

If you’ve never played a Warriors game (such as the Dynasty Warriors series or, more recently, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild spinoff, Hyrule Warriors), you may not know what to expect from the gameplay of Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes. Warriors titles are known as musou games, a style of hack-n-slash gameplay where the player engages in solo battles against large hordes of weak enemies. Musuo games are typically big on action and rely less on story and strategy.

This is quite a contrast to Fire Emblem: Three Houses, which is a tactical RPG. However, the trailer does a lot to reassure fans who may be worried about a big departure from the series norm. In addition to the branching story paths, the gameplay appears to include a few tactical elements, such as moving your forces around on a map.

Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes is scheduled for release on June 24, 2022.
