Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 will not feature a single player campaign on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
The last-gen version of the game will only feature the multiplayer component and zombie mode. Activision announced the news on the Call of Duty community blog, which comments that, “The ambitious scope of the 1-4 player coop Campaign design of the PS4, Xbox One and PC versions could not be faithfully recreated on old generation hardware.”
Players on PS3 and Xbox 360 will also find the game lack “features built to leverage the next generation hardware like the new Weapon Paint Shop and the new suite of eSports tools [which] will only be available on Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.”
As a result, the RRP for the game on last-gen platforms is $49.99 and players will earn a “bonus download for the original Call of Duty: Black Ops (bonus download availability may vary by region)”.
While it's true that most Call of Duty players are primarily interested in the multiplayer, there are some who do tackle the campaign mode of each entry in the series. Given that this only impacts last-gen players however, it's unclear what, if any, effect the decision will have.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 launches November 6th and is also coming to PC, PS4, and Xbox One, complete with the single player story. This news follows the recent announcements of the Call of Duty World League and a PS4 Black Ops 3 bundle.
