Destiny: The Taken King Hotfix Fixes Three of Coins Exploit

September 24, 2015 by Michael Fossbakk

Exploits need to be addressed.

Bungie has released a hotfix for Destiny: The Taken King that addresses, among other things, an exploit in the way the new Three of Coins item functions.

Update 2.0.0.4 changes how much more likely players are to receive an exotic engram drop “when rapidly killing Ultras” in Strikes. Prior to this update, some players found an exploit in the Three of Coins item, which was intended to simply make an exotic engram drop chance higher when killing Ultras in Strikes, but players found that if they also died when the Ultra died, they could reload to a checkpoint and find the same boss again, thus getting more mileage out of a single Three of Coins.

The update is intended to only affect this exploit as it only affects the drop chance of exotic engrams “when used in rapid succession,” as outlined in Bungie’s Weekly Update today.

“When used with more time between kills (for example, on Strike bosses), they remain as effective as before,” Bungie community manager Deej wrote.

In other Destiny: The Taken King news, a new exotic sniper rifle called Black Spindle appears to have seen its 15 minutes come and go. The exotic sniper rifle was available for 24 hours yesterday as a reward for a bonus objective in the Daily Heroic mission. Bungie reassured players who missed out on the Black Spindle yesterday that the Heroic Mission in question would enter the rotation and appear again in the future, however, Bungie also announced that it will be nerfing the popular weapon soon, reducing its attack rating from 310 to 290. Bungie says that its 310 base attack rating was an error on their part.
