Whether you like or hate his movies, there’s no denying that Zack Snyder has affected the movie world in substantial ways during his time as a director. Whether it was bringing Watchmen to life, or showcasing the brutality in 300, and of course, his time in the DC Comics universe, he’s influenced people. And when WB ruined his take on Justice League, fans rallied to get the “Snyder Cut” revived (and are hoping to do the same with the “Ayer Cut”). And due to this, many have adopted that term for their own devices…including…The Boys.
Oh yes, this is real. Funnily enough, The Boys did a Snyder Cut reference in Season 2 of the show, but they framed it more about Joss Whedon (who is now a pariah due to the exposing of his true nature), but this time around, The Boys to hype up Season 3 are showing one of the “trailers” for their in-universe movies “Dawn of the 7”. And framing it as the “true version” via…The Bourke Cut.
And why does this matter to Zack Snyder? Because he himself quoted the trailer and praised it and its director and was “excited” to see the true vision.
Obviously, he’s having fun and poking fun at himself in the process, but the fact that he acknowledged this at all shows just how “aware” he is of all that’s happened due to his fanbase.
Funnily enough, The Boys stars and crew also commented on his quoted tweet, including Anthony Starr who plays Homelander, as well as one of the VFX guys stating to Zack that “we hope we did you “justice””.
The Boys Season 3 is coming in June, and you can very much expect more references of this kind to come out. And it’ll be fun to react to them.
