Bloodborne: The Old Hunters’ Difficulty Will Be ‘Similar to Latter Portion of Bloodborne’

September 21, 2015 by Michael Fossbakk

DLC will be accessible after progressing “through the story to a certain point.”

Bloodborne: The Old Hunters will have several new weapons, expand upon the lore of the universe, and will be on par with “the latter portion” of Bloodborne in terms of difficulty, according to series producer Masaaki Yamagiwa.

Speaking to GameSpot in an interview, Yamagiwa spoke about the amount of content contained in The Old Hunters DLC, in comparison to what was shown at the Tokyo Game Show last week.

“[The TGS demo] is a small portion of one of the three new stages that's going to be in the DLC,” Yamagiwa said. “But we have tweaked a few things in the demo so it's not exactly the same experience you'll have in the main game. The real version is going to be even harder.”

“Especially the primary boss in the demo, one thing we want to mention is this is not the final version of the boss, so don't take everything you see here as gospel quite yet.”

When asked if brand new Bloodborne players will need to finish the original game in order to start The Old Hunters, Yamagiwa only said that players will “have to progress through [the original game’s] story to a certain point and then the DLC will become available.” It is unclear as to what point in the original game Yamagiwa is referring to specifically, but he also mentioned that the difficulty of The Old Hunters will be “similar to the latter portion of [Bloodborne] because the DLC is for people who have progressed to a certain point in the game and then are able to access the DLC.”

Bloodborne: The Old Hunters was announced last week at TGS. The PlayStation 4 exclusive will be released by itself on Nov. 24, 2015 for players who already own Bloodborne and then as a package deal (Bloodborne + The Old Hunters) called Bloodborne: The Old Hunters Edition on Dec. 3, 2015. Originally planning to release two pieces of DLC for Bloodborne, From Software has instead optioned to release only The Old Hunters, but it will be the length of two individual pieces of DLC.
