What do you think of when you see soldiers walking through the forest, into a castle, and giving a woman in a fur coat a coin before entering a mysterious door?
Seriously, that's not a rhetorical question. We're trying to figure out what the hell this new Sony teaser trailer is hinting at. As you can see above, the live action trailer features the odd scenario we just described before abruptly ending with a date: October 5, 2011.
Speculation on the Internet points to this being a tease for the impending fall update to PlayStation Home, which will rework the service into a series of themed districts built around a central Hub. The revamp will also introduce new game elements to Home, including a first-person shooter called Bootleggers that lets you gun folks down with your avatar.
If that's the case, though, we haven't got the slightest idea how this ad is supposed to convey the Home update. Maybe the soldiers setting aside their guns represent gamers leaving standard online multiplayer to join a more peaceful, social community? Maybe the coin drop means you'll have to start paying for the service? Alright, I think we're just grasping at straws now.
Either way, it's a vast improvement over when they used that creepy doll to sell PS3s. Baby steps, Sony. Baby steps.
