After news earlier in the year that it was to be delayed indefinitely, it seems that things are finally back on track for the next-gen version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. In a tweet shared earlier on the game’s official Twitter account, CD Projekt RED confirmed a release window for the Xbox Series S/X and PlayStation 5 version of The Witcher 3.
This will come as welcome news for many who were left disappointed last month after CD Projekt RED decided to push back the proposed release date for the upgrade without giving any idea as to when fans could expect a new one. The studio later had to clear up speculation about the state of the upgrade being in “development hell”, insisting that this was not the case. It seems more likely that the delay was down to global events, as up until then a Russian branch of Saber Interactive had been in charge of the work on the upgrade. Although no specific reason was given for the decision to delay things, the studio was keen to reiterate that “development hell” was definitely not the reason.
However, it seems as though those waiting to play The Witcher 3 on next-gen consoles won’t have to wait too much longer, as it’s now planned to be out at some time in the last quarter of this year. Although “Q4 2022” is still kind of vague, fans eager to get their hands on the upgrade should be able to console themselves with the fact that they do at least now have a timeframe in mind.
The upgrade for Xbox Series S and Series X will be free for those who already own a copy of the game for Xbox One. In addition, it will also be free for those who own the game on PS4 to play on PS5, and PC owners will also be able to download the upgrade for free.
