Nintendo has revealed thatSuper Mario Maker has now had 1 million courses uploaded, only a week after release. Nintendo Co. Ltd shared a new video celebrating the milestone, and showing off some of the courses made by fans.
While worldwide numbers aren’t available quite yet, early sales projections from Japan paint a rosy picture of its debut. Famitsu and Media Create project the game debuted between 130,000 to 140,000 units, raising it to the top of the charts, and Wii U sales doubling to 20,000 units in the week.
As some players have noted, some of the most highly rated courses in the game right now are the Rube Goldberglike auto scroll levels. It’s an interesting phenomena given these are the kinds of courses that Nintendo have never thought to make themselves (or perhaps they did it all the time but decided they couldn’t sell games with them).
There’s ample evidence fans are constantly making and playing these levels too, such as the official reddit, or these unofficial course curation sites for devs and from NintendoLife. For sure, the game will hit its next million uploads in no time.
