The Genshin Impact community has been struggling. Due to strict lockdowns hitting Shanghai where the game’s developer is based, the 2.7 update was delayed indefinitely last month. With some neat new characters on the horizon, the waiting game has been agony for those dedicated to miHoYo’s cash cow.
Today, fans are getting some much happier news. The Chinese developer has announced that the Genshin Impact 2.7 Special Program will be airing tomorrow, May 20, on the game’s official Twitch and YouTube channels. Those located in the states will be able to watch a later YouTube stream starting at 8:00 AM EST. The stream will highlight official gameplay for the new 5-star Hydro bow user Yelan and the 4-star Electro character Kuki Shinobu. More special events for 2.7 will also be previewed during the stream.
The company has also announced a release date for 2.7. Maintenence for the update will begin on May 31. According to the Genshin Impact Twitter page, 2.7 will run for six weeks, with 2.8 scheduled to begin on July 13.
This week, HoYoVerse previewed another new character, the Anemo user Shikanoin Heizou. It’s likely that he will be added to the character roster in 2.8.
To compensate players for another week of delay hell, HoYoVerse will be sending out another in-game letter containing a Fragile Resin, 7 Hero’s Wits, 16 Mystic Enhancement Ores, 400 Primogems, and 120,000 Mora. The dev team has been sending players virtual care packages for the past few weeks as an apology.
This month, it was announced that Genshin Impact had surpassed $3 billion in global lifetime player spending across Google Play and the App Store since its launch on September 28, 2020. The game has averaged revenue of $1 billion every six months.
Genshin Impact is available to play on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and mobile devices. A Nintendo Switch version is currently in development. Earlier this week, miHoYo released a trailer for their next game titled Zenless Zone Zero. Players can now sign up for the closed beta.
