Rumors about a potential remake of the critically acclaimed The Last Of Us have been circulating for a while now, and it looks like Sony and Naughty Dog may have plans to release the title later this year. Earlier today, industry insider Jeff Grubb appeared on the Kinda Funny Gamescast with Tim Gettys, Blessing Adeoye, and Andy Cortez, where they spoke about a variety of topics, including The Last of Us Remake. You can watch the full video below.
According to Grubb, he has heard from various sources that the remake is coming later this year. At 41:00 minutes into the podcast, Blessing starts a discussion about Sony’s remaining plans for 2022 and briefly mentions The Last Of Us Remake. Responding to this, Grubb simply said, “Yeah, I keep hearing that’s coming out this year.” He then goes on to explain Naughty Dog’s position following the completion of The Last Of Us Part II, as they needed new projects to work on.
The Last Of Us Remake was rumored to be in development last year, with Naughty Dog taking over from PlayStation’s Visual Arts Service Group, the original developers of the project. If the game is scheduled for holiday 2022, then this year may be integral for Sony and the PlayStation 5, as we’ve already received Gran Turismo 7, Horizon Forbidden West, and God of War Ragnarok is aiming for a late 2022 release window.
Sony has also unveiled its plans for the revamp of PlayStation Plus, which is being seperated into various tiers, with some of them offering access to a multitude of titles in PlayStation’s backlog.
